Happy United Nation’s Day!!!

***The song is called “Kaleidoscope World”, written and sung by Francis Magalona, from his 1994 FreeMan  album. Tried to post the original 1994 vid but embedding was disabled upon poster’s request. You can view it via YouTube on this link… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoKlCGgciLw  Special thanks to IceSpaceOnline for making and uploading this kickass tribute video!!!

Okay, rant for the day! Now, I know that October 24th, United Nation’s Day,  isn’t really a holiday here in the U.S., but it is celebrated in other various parts of the world, including Asia where I’m from originally. In some parts, it’s even a government holiday. Anywayz, thinking about UN Day reminds me of this song that I loved when I was in the Philippines over a decade ago! (Having travelled  quite a few number of times, I’ve seen such diversities that were mentioned in this song!) Looking back, I ask myself,  were we really different/better/worse human beings 14 yrs ago than we are now? Is the world we’re living in right now a far better place than the one we lived in back then?  Did humanity really even made any progress? Still racking my brain for the answers!

Just so you know what the hell I’m talking about, here are the song’s lyrics…

Kaleidoscope World (by Francis Magalona)

So many faces, so many races
Different voices, different choices
Some are mad, while others laugh
Some live alone with no better half
Others grieve while others curse
And others mourn behind a big black hearse
Some are pure and some half-bred
Some are sober and some are wasted
Some are rich because of fate and
Some are poor with no food on their plate
Some stand out while others blend
Some are fat and stout while some are thin
Some are friends and some are foes
Some have some while some have most

Every color and every hue
Is represented by me and you
Take a slide in the slope
Take a look in the kaleidoscope
Spinnin’ round, make it twirl
In this kaleidoscope world

Some are great and some have few
Others lie while some tell the truth
Some say poems and some do sing
Others sing through their guitar strings
Some know it all while some act dumb
Let the bassline strum to the bang of the drum
Some can swim while some will sink
And some will find their minds and think
Others walk while others run
You can’t talk peace and have a gun
Some are hurt and start to cry
Don’t ask me how don’t ask me why
Some are friends and some are foes
Some have some while some have most

Every color and every hue
Is represented by me and you
Take a slide in the slope
Take a look in the kaleidoscope
Spinnin’ round, make it twirl
In this kaleidoscope world
